Go to http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and click on "Solicitations" then "Open Solicitations." This NASA Research Announcement (NRA) solicits proposals for supporting basic and applied research and technology across a broad range of Earth and space science program elements relevant to one or more of the following NASA Research Programs: Earth Science, Heliophysics, Planetary Science, and Astrophysics. Awards range from under $100K per year for focused, limited efforts (e.g., data analysis) to more than $1M per year for extensive activities (e.g., development of science experiment hardware). The typical period of performance for an award is four years, although a few programs may specify shorter or longer (maximum of five years) periods. Proposal due dates are scheduled starting on May 1, 2009, and continue through April 30, 2010. Electronic submission of proposals is required either through NSPIRES or via Grants.gov. For further information contact the individual Program Officers listed in the Summary of Key Information for each program element. Questions concerning general NRA policies and procedures may be directed to Dr. Max Bernstein, Lead for Research, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington, DC 20546-0001; E-mail: sara@nasa.gov; Telephone: 202-358-0879. The Conveners are: Andy Cheng [andy.cheng@jhuapl.edu] Alan Stern [alan@boulder.swri.edu] William B. McKinnon [mckinnon@wustl.edu] We welcome suggestions for topics and invited speakers. The AGU abstract deadline is March 4, 2009. The session description follows. Dwarf Planets are increasingly being recognized as an important category of planets in our solar system, and are widely expected to be common in other planetary systems as well. As a newly recognized class of planets, they illuminate our knowledge of the origins and evolution of planetary bodies in general, with particular relevance to mid-stage planetary accretion models, the evolution of large planetary satellites, and the general formation paths of satellite systems surrounding asteroid and planets. This session will review and present new results concerning the physical attributes of dwarf planets in the asteroid and Kuiper Belts, and look to more general properties of such bodies that may apply in other planetary systems. 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: LABORATORY PLANETARY SCIENCES AT AOGS 2009 (SINGAPORE, 11-15 AUGUST 2009) Session: PS12 Laboratory Planetary Sciences Abstract deadline: 15 March 2009 Conveners: David Huestis (david.huestis@sri.com), Robert Wu, Leon Phillips, Jan Nee, and Brenton Lewis Session URL: http://www.asiaoceania.org/aogs2009/mars/confSessionView.asp?sID=11 Conference: URL: http://www.asiaoceania.org/aogs2009/ Research themes for this session - all spectral ranges of laboratory investigations - particle and radiation interaction with all phases of matter - theoretical and laboratory cross sections and reaction rates - application to planetary, cometary, and astronomical observations 4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 THE SEARCH FOR LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE May 4 - 7, 2009 Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, MD, USA The Space Telescope Science Institute 2009 Spring Symposium is entitled "The Search for Life in the Universe." On-line registration and symposium information are available at: http://www.stsci.edu/institute/conference/spring2009 The symposium will run 3.5 days from May 4 - 7, 2009. The program will consist of invited talks and contributed posters. Specific scientific themes have been selected for each day: May 4 (day 1): "Milepost Zero: Life on Earth" May 5 (day 2): "The Search for Life Within 50 A.U" May 6 (day 3): "The Search for Life Within 100 pc" May 7 (day 4): "The Search for Life in the Galaxy" The early registration deadline is March 1, 2009. The registration fee for those registering on or before this date is $350 US. The registration fee includes attendance at the symposium and refreshments during the sessions. A separate conference banquet fee is not included in the conference registration. The conference banquet will be held on the evening of May 6.
