The applicant will provide leadership in management and oversight of scientific data coming through the Planetary Data System (PDS) within the Solar System Exploration Division Data Services Office (Code 690.1). The incumbent serves as deputy to the PDS Program Manager within 690.1. This is a Full-Time Term (6 year) appointment, which can be converted to permanent. The applicant must possess a skill range that includes planetary science research, program and/or project management, and use of standards for managing, archiving and distributing planetary science data. He/she will document and report study results to management in areas such as planetary space science. The individual selected to fill this position will conduct scientific research in planetary science, such as using data archived in PDS. In addition, he/she will consult with all levels of management, Headquarters personnel, and NASA supported missions. Title: Challenging the Paradigm: The Legacy of Galileo Date: Thursday November 19, 2009 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Location: Cahill Center, Hameetman Auditorium at Caltech (Pasadena, CA) In the year when the world celebrates the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei's discoveries through the use of the telescope, this one-day symposium will reflect upon the significance of his discoveries to the development of our culture and to science. Sessions include: - Galileo - the Man and The Space Mission - Exploration of Galileo's Worlds: The Jovian and Saturnian Systems - What Galileo Hath Wrought: Observing the Cosmic System - Beyond Galileo Galilei: Modern Frontiers of Cosmic Science Researchers are encouraged to contribute a poster describing innovative research on any of the themes discussed by the invited speakers.
