This practice-based workshop will focus on how we communicate (style) and the words we use to effectively communicate. It is highly hands-on and will feature lots of time to learn and to practice. It will be on Saturday October 14 and registration is $15. Geared for students, researchers, faculty, or other professionals across any subdiscipline. Go to: https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2023/program/short Please share this with other students and/or colleagues who may be interested. 4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 ARCGIS WORKSHOP AT GSA CONNECTS 2023 The first offering of our new 1-day ArcGIS workshop, updated for ArcGIS Pro, will be at GSA Connects 2023, on Friday October 13. It is listed as Short Course 503: https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2023/program/short The conference is in Pittsburgh, PA, and the workshop will be in-person only. As part of this program, we also plan to continue offering this workshop at LPSC and Cornell in 2024. This short course is our NEW, all-ArcGIS Pro workshop. We will be guiding ArcMap users through the transition to ArcGIS Pro, and introducing novice ArcGIS users to ArcGIS Pro from the start. The early registration deadline for GSA is a few days away (September 13). We do not, as of yet, have enough people registered for our short course to be able to run it. We must make the call as to whether to run it or not shortly after that deadline, so if you or anyone you know is interested in this course, please sign up before the deadline if at all possible. We can continue to accept registrations after that right up until the course starts. If you have any questions about the workshop, please contact Zoe Learner Ponterio (spif@astro.cornell.edu). The Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionospheric Sounding (MARSIS) is a radar sounding instrument aboard the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter. MARSIS has been collecting data since 2005, and continues to operate today. The U.S. MARSIS Science Team, led by Jeffrey Plaut of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has reprocessed all of the MARSIS subsurface sounding data from 2005 to mid-2022 using optimization techniques to correct for distortions in the radargram image products. The new archive bundle, in the Planetary Data System version 4 format, allows users to easily browse through data products, and to perform quantitative analysis. Included are supporting products such as maps of the radar ground track, simulated radargrams depicting surface clutter, and ionospheric parameters derived from the radar processing. The processing task was supported by the Planetary Data Archiving, Restoration, and Tools (PDART) program element, part of NASA's Planetary Science Research Program. The new data can be accessed at: https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/mex/urn-nasa-pds-mex_marsis_optim/ 9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9 INTEREST IN CALIBRATING PLASMA MEASUREMENTS SPECIAL ISSUE JOURNAL We are developing a special issue Frontiers journal topic on calibrating plasma measurements. If you have a calibration technique published in a student thesis, technical paper, laboratory notebook, paper appendix, etc, we are looking for your work! Plasma research covers a breadth of fields from in-situ to remote sensing, from fire dynamics to solar wind shock properties, from radio to x-ray. We are seeking to share the variety of approaches researchers take in making calibrations to stimulate new ideas and explore new possiblities. We are assembling a list of scientists and engineers to contact when the special issue begins accepting paper concepts. Please reach out to us with your email if you or someone you know may be interested. Thank you! A detailed description is available online: https://lsu.box.com/s/ab7tjcnbrrlm7k0o21ut7o1i79ag76rw GANGOTRI began as an open planetary community project, described in the following whitepaper: https://doi.org/10.3847/25c2cfeb.a3d8d8e9 Participants joined via public solicitations at venues like the Planetary Exploration Newsletter and MEPAG ICE-SAG announcements. While currently in the team consolidation phase, the spirit and strength of inclusivity will remain a hallmark of the mission. As a project that Drs. Scott Perl at NASA-JPL and Suniti Karunatillake at LSU are leading jointly with colleagues across several LSU departments, NASA Centers, international research centers, and technology companies, we will also transfer leadership generationally until the concept deploys successfully on Mars. Collectively, this will position the hired postdoc colleague not only to focus on underlying science aims, but also to strengthen planetary mission leadership skills. 14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14 TENURE-TRACK POSITIONS IN SOLAR SYSTEM PLANETARY SCIENCE AT CALTECH The Caltech Geological and Planetary Sciences Division is hiring multiple tenure-track faculty.
