We are currently extending the software to be able to process radiometric (DSN/ESTRACK) data from planetary spacecraft, as well as Earth-optical data of Solar System objects. In this context, we have a vacancy for an 18-month position to support these developments. The focus of the position is on software development, but up to 30% of the time can be used on a research project led by the candidate. In addition, the candidate will be actively involved in ongoing research and publications. The position would be ideally suited for a recent/upcoming M.Sc. or Ph.D. graduate with a background in astrodynamics and orbit determination, with a strong affinity for software development. Peregrine Mission 1 was the first lunar mission launched as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative. Following a successful launch and separation from the rocket on Jan. 8, the spacecraft experienced a propulsion issue preventing Peregrine from softly landing on the Moon. After analysis and recommendations from NASA and the space community, Astrobiotic determined the best option for minimizing risk and ensuring responsible disposal of the spacecraft would be to maintain Peregrine's trajectory towards Earth, where it burned up upon re-entry. All mission payloads that could be were powered on and collect data. Mission and payload teams will share their stories and preliminary data interpretation. 10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10 INTUITIVE MACHINES 1 MISSION OVERVIEW AT LPSC Thursday, March 14, 2024 1:00 PM to 3 PM Creekside Park meeting room at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Intuitive Machine's Odysseus landed successfully touched down on the lunar surface on February 22, sending back data during 6+ days of surface operations. The robots are coming...and they have the ability to generate sampling plans for field data collection. We want to know if you can tell the difference between plans made by robots versus human scientists. Help us by completing an online survey (<10 minutes) available at: https://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cLJQdd9VukUEW2O You will be shown a series of sampling plans, some from expert Earth and planetary scientists and some from robotic information gathering algorithms. You will be asked to judge whether the plan was made by a human or robot, and asked to report your satisfaction with different features of the plan. At the end, you will find out how good you are at distinguishing robot from human plans. You will also be asked to answer a few demographic questions. Your participation will support the MS Thesis of Oregon State Robotics student Zachary Lee and will help us to improve robotic information gathering algorithms to produce sampling plans that are more satisfactory to scientists. Submit abstracts by 29 March 2024 (23:59 CET) at: https://conf.goldschmidt.info/goldschmidt/2024/cfp.cgi The origin and evolution of volatile elements within the Earth system are critical for determining the density of the core, the rheology of the interior, the composition of the atmosphere, and establishing planetary habitability. Volatile elements include those critical for life (H, C, N, O, S, and P) as well as the noble gasses (He, Ne, Kr, Ar, and Xe). This session is particularly interested in new developments in the understanding of how volatiles were incorporated into specific reservoirs within Earth's interior and the transfer of volatiles between those reservoirs and with the ocean and atmosphere. Discovering the details of how volatile elements were delivered, stored, and transported within Earth is an interdisciplinary problem that spans astrophysics, planetary science, and the geosciences. This session invites contributions from these fields including cosmochemistry, geodynamics, elemental and isotopic geochemistry, experimental petrology, and mineral physics. 16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-16 INTERNATIONAL GEOLOGICAL CONGRESS PLANETARY SCIENCES SECTION (T5) We invite abstract submissions to the Planetary Sciences Section (T5) of the 37th International Geological Congress, which will be held from August 25-31, 2024 in Busan, Republic of Korea. The PDE IRB delivered its final report in April 2021. The Planetary Science Division has performed an internal evaluation of actions and efforts in support of addressing the findings and recommendations in the PDE IRB final report. A summary of efforts towards developing a more connected and effective PDE is documented in a status report (see below links). This report describes efforts that have been completed from April 2021 to September 2023.
