Through a combination of solicited and contributed presentations, this session will host observational, laboratory, theoretical, or analogue fieldwork research into any aspect of planetary volcanic and tectonic activity. The research work will focus on the area of physics and chemistry of outer planetary ice analogs using laboratory simulations and spectroscopy. Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, astronomy or planetary sciences and a strong motivation to undertake this multidisciplinary research. Experience and expertise in the following techniques are highly desired: low-temperature techniques, laboratory ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy, ultra-high vacuum techniques, and mass-spectrometry. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years since the date of their application are eligible. Postdoctoral positions are awarded for a minimum of one-year period and may be renewed up to a maximum duration of three years. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a federal facility. The meeting is open for any aspects of dust research by means of different methods of studies (in-situ and laboratory measurements, astronomical observations, laboratory and numerical simulations, theoretical modeling, data analysis, etc.). The prize is supported by the following international Institutions: University of Pisa, ASI, INAF, IFAC-CNR, Observatoire de Nice (France). The eighth Paolo Farinella Prize is devoted to planetary sciences and specifically to studies on the "Giant planets satellite systems".
