We invite submissions from laboratory, observational, modeling, and instrument/method development work that focus on aerosols in atmospheres different from that of the modern Earth. A goal of the session is to facilitate multi-disciplinary connections between planetary and aerosol scientists. The Symposium Abstract can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/4jysyncj The regular abstract deadline is May 8, 2024, with late-breaking posters accepted until July 22, 2024. ON APRIL 28-29, 2024 The Day of Action is The Planetary Society's premier advocacy event. Following a successful return to in-person advocacy in 2023, this year's event will include a training on Sunday, April 28, and a full day of scheduled and drop-in meetings on Monday, April 29. The deadline to register is Monday, April 15! The Day of Action is an opportunity for members of the community to take direct action to support space science, research, and exploration. In-person meetings are the most effective way to defend science priorities and advance our shared goals. As NASA faces major budget cuts after Congress already slashed the agency's science budget in 2024, now is the time to stand united for a robust and balanced space science program. Anyone is welcome to participate, whether you're an experienced space advocate or new to the endeavor. The Planetary Society will provide you with the training, resources, and scheduled meetings to enable you to channel your passion and expertise into successful grassroots advocacy. We especially encourage people outside of Europe and Asia to offer to host. We plan to announce the location of the next conference (TNO2027) during the upcoming meeting, so please email your proposals to Meg Schwamb (mschwamb.astro@gmail.com) by 11:59 pm UTC on May 31 with the subject line "TNO2027 Location Proposal". Please limit your proposal to three letter/A4 pages, and include the following information: - Host institution, city, and country - Meeting dates - One to three names of local organizers who will be willing and able to join the SOC - Meeting venue (conference center, university or other institute), A/V facilities, seating capacity (at least 100, preferably closer to 150), space for poster sessions, and amenities (coffee, snacks, etc.) - Level of IT support available - Expected funding levels to support the conference and expected conference fees - Support for diverse needs of attendees, such as dietary restrictions, child care, accessibility, and prioritization of EDI efforts (e.g. personal pronouns on name badges and quiet rooms) 6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6 TWO POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN MOON ENVIRONMENTS AND MAGNETOSPHERIC INTERACTION AT DIAS Two new postdoctoral position are available within the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) Planetary Magnetospheres Group: https://dias.ie/planetary The positions are available for 2 years in the first instance, with scope for extension, starting as soon as possible. One of the positions is focused on Ganymede's aurora and spacecraft charging of the JUICE mission, the other focuses on moon-magnetosphere interaction and machine learning. Closing date May 17, 2024. Both vacancies can be accessed through this link: https://www.dias.ie/vacancies/ Prospective applicants are encouraged to directly contact and discuss scientific opportunities with Dr. Mika Holmberg (mika@cp.dias.ie) regarding Ganymede's aurora and spacecraft charging position and Dr. Hans Huybrighs (hans@cp.dias.ie) regarding the moon-magnetosphere position. At DIAS, we are committed to building an inclusive scientific community, distinguished by scientific excellence, gender balance, and diversity. Proposals for flexible working will be considered. Applicants are welcome to include in their CV (if applicable) any career breaks, and a short statement on any impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on their scientific productivity. 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7 [NASA] SMD: APRIL 15TH TOWN HALL - NASA RESPONSE TO MARS SAMPLE RETURN INDEPENDENT REVIEW BOARD REPORT NASA Headquarters Science Mission Directorate (SMD) will host a virtual town hall at 2 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Central, 11 a.m. Pacific time on Monday, April 15, 2024. The Division is one of the leading research groups in the field of space instrumentation for experimental Solar System exploration and is looking for professors in the fields of planetary remote sensing and in situ mass spectrometry or in related fields. The initial hiring level can range from assistant professor tenure track to full professor according to qualifications (open rank). The successful candidates are expected to have or further develop an excellent and internationally recognized track record in the development, construction, and exploitation of scientific instrumentation flying on spacecraft missions. The Division offers excellent conditions in terms of laboratory infrastructure, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities to build space-grade hardware. The University of Bern has set the aim of increasing the percentage of women in leading academic positions and thus strongly encourages female scientists to apply for the positions. The application deadline is 1 August 2024.
