Dr Gina DiBraccio will become Acting PSD Director during this time. For full details, and to read Dr Glaze's letter to the planetary science community, please see here: https://planetarynews.org/Documents/LoriGlaze_Letter_240519.html 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 [NASA] SUBMIT REQUESTS FOR NO-COST-EXTENSIONS 11-DAYS PRIOR TO END DATE The NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) issues grants and cooperative agreements for NASA. When a grant or cooperative agreement nears the end of the period of performance (POP) and there is original scope to complete and existing budget, a No-Cost Extension (NCE) may be requested to extend the POP by up to twelve months. NCEs should be requested through the Web form: https://tinyurl.com/2jh6y3ja The NSSC will reject NCE requests received less than 10 calendar days prior to the end date. If a Principal Investigator (PI) submits the NCE request via the NSSC website, they should ensure their Sponsored Research Office (SRO) or Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) receives a copy of what the PI submitted to the NSSC's web form. Any NCE questions should be emailed to NSSC-CONTACTCENTER@nasa.gov. Examples of NCE limits include and are not limited to: - SMD funding provided to a NASA Center, JPL, or other Federal lab or facility via contract, inter- or intra-agency agreement, etc., is not eligible for any NCEs. - SMD funding awarded as a federal grant or cooperative agreement, will not be extended when 1) the funding has been canceled; 2) the award's POP (original or extended) has ended; or 3) both. To broaden the base of investigators involved in SMD-supported science and engineering, SMD especially seeks proposals from investigators and institutions that have rarely, if ever, received funding from NASA. To be eligible to propose to this program element the proposing organization must be an R2 MSI, however R1 MSI scientists are eligible to be Co-Investigators. ROSES-2024 Amendment 13 delays the proposal due date for A.58 IPMSI to June 10. Also, a FAQ has been posted under other documents on the NSPIRES page for this program element: https://tinyurl.com/mryaryty To view this Amendment, go to: https://science.nasa.gov/researchers/solicitations/roses-2024/ Questions concerning A.58 IPMSI may be directed to Argyro Kavvada at argyro.kavvada@nasa.gov. 4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 [NASA] ROSES-24 AMENDMENT 14: F.19 RESEARCH INITIATION AWARDS FINAL TEXT AND DUE DATE F.19 Research Initiation Awards (RIA) aims to broaden the base of institutions involved in the SMD research and technology development ecosystem. RIA aims to: 1) Enable investigators with no prior or recent research funding to pursue research at non-R1 institutions 2) Enable undergraduate students to perform cutting-edge research in an SMD-relevant field. Funding for undergraduate students is a required element. The PI may not have received federal funding as PI of a project that is related to the proposed research activities within the last five years (with exceptions described in Section 2.2). RIA proposals must be relevant to NASA's SMD research goals. The proposed candidate investigation(s) may be analytical, experimental, observational, computational, theoretical, or use data analytical approaches. An RIA award, including indirect costs, must not exceed $300,000 over 24 months. This program will evaluate proposals using dual-anonymous peer review. Proposals are due August 15, 2024. For more information: https://tinyurl.com/y5vwh3vc A proposer's overview webinar is scheduled for June 6, 2024, from 1-2:30 p.m. ET. A large focus of this Town Hall will be to discuss requirements for proposals submitted under the Dual Anonymous Peer Review (DAPR) process, which will be the default for all proposals submitted to the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) under ROSES-2025 (with rare exceptions). Additionally, we will discuss some analytics for our Planetary Research programs and potential future ways of soliciting proposals for Planetary Research, with the goal of increasing accessibility and decreasing unnecessary barriers for proposing to Planetary Research programs. The NOFO is expected to be released in the third quarter of FY2024 (April-June). The new mid-level funding tier was created in response to feedback from the informal education community. The new "STEM Innovator" tier will fund awards of approximately $250,000. In addition, the highest tier award will be designated the "National Connector" award and fund initiatives up to $900,000. The "Community Anchor" tier will continue to offer awards up to $50,000. The Community Anchor tier opportunity will be offered each fiscal year, and the STEM Innovator and National Connector tiers will be offered in alternating years. By adding the mid-level tier, NASA and Next Gen STEM aim to broaden the number and type of awards made to Informal Education Institutions for creating innovative, NASA-inspired programming for K-12 students and their families. This position is funded by the European Research Council Consolidator Grant "IronHeart" and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in understanding Mercury's internal structure through experimental and computational approaches. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to integrate both experimental investigations, utilizing a multi-anvil press to simulate extreme pressure and temperature conditions within Mercury's interior, and computational modeling into the project. However, the project's focus will be tailored to the candidate's preference. By combining experimental and computational approaches, the project aims to provide comprehensive insights into the formation and dynamics of Mercury's interior. This project, funded by the European Research Council Consolidator Grant "IronHeart," offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in understanding the early stages of planetary formation through experimental investigations. The successful candidate will conduct experimental investigations to simulate the formation and evolution of magma oceans in planets. By recreating the extreme conditions present during the early stages of planetary accretion, the project aims to elucidate the physical and chemical processes governing magma ocean crystallization, differentiation, and subsequent solidification. While experimental studies will be the primary focus, the project will also involve numerical modeling to complement and interpret experimental results. Since 2015 it has made ground-breaking discoveries of the Pluto-Charon system, flown past the small contact KBO binary Arrokoth and collected phase and light curve data for some three dozen additional KBOs and the ice giants. It has also been sampling dust density throughout the Solar System and studying the cosmic optical background. To raise awareness of New Horizon's scientific impact we are beginning a new spotlight seminar series (30 min, fourth week each month) which we invite you to attend online, or watch recorded at your convenience. Our first speaker will be Marc Postman of STScI who will present on his recent landmark work: "New Synoptic Observations of the Cosmic Optical Background with New Horizons" Connection Link: https://zoom.us/j/97317697636?pwd=MTAzMjJmNThTeFppR3JoYzlkUXVCQT09 Meeting ID: 973 1769 7636 Passcode: 802327 --- One tap mobile +16469313860,,97317697636#,,,,*802327# US +19292056099,,97317697636#,,,,*802327# US (New York) Calendar for future seminars: https://tinyurl.com/2bpuuz3d Recordings will be archived and posted at: https://www.youtube.com/@NASANewHorizons/featured For questions, contact New Horizons CoI Susan Benecchi, susank@psi.edu 18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18-18 PLANETARY MEETING CALENDAR ADDITIONS Note: Many face-to-face meetings going forward will have online components.
